About
Studio Allestra is a professional development platform for artists, founded by multimedia artist Stella Chang of Art By Stella Chang. Rather than operating as an art school or accredited educational institution, Studio Allestra focuses on practical, real-world learning through webinars, workshops, digital resources, and expert-led programs. By bringing together industry leaders, subject matter experts, and working professionals, Studio Allestra helps artists gain strategic insight, understand career opportunities, and navigate the realities of the creative industry. While we cannot guarantee specific results or success, our aim is to empower artists with knowledge so they can make informed decisions about their career paths.
Stella Chang Bio
Stella Chang is an abstract figurative artist working across both gallery and art licensing markets, and an arts programming advisor dedicated to artist empowerment and professional development.
Before becoming a full-time artist, Chang spent eighteen years in the fashion industry, including her final role as Design Director for ModaRévisé Creative Studio. Her background in fashion accessories design, merchandising, branding, visual storytelling, market positioning, and consumer behavior later became the foundation for how she built her own art career.
After the sudden onset of lupus ended her fashion career in 2021, Chang transitioned into art full-time and began applying the business insights she had gained in fashion to her studio practice. She approached her art career with the same strategic thinking she had used in product development and design direction: understanding audience, clarifying visual identity, building relationships, positioning work for the right market, and creating sustainable opportunities over time.
As artist friends began asking how she was navigating the professional side of the art world, Chang began sharing her insights, which evolved into a broader mission to provide artists with practical, real-world knowledge often missing from traditional art education, forming the foundation of Studio Allestra.
She has since expanded this work through leadership and teaching, serving as Chair of the Junior & Scholarship Committee at New York’s historic Salmagundi Club from 2024 through June 2026, developing programs that connected artists with industry professionals, and is selected to begin teaching at GlassRoots Newark as part of its Teaching Artist Residency from September to December 2026.
Chang earned her BFA from New York University and lives and works in New Jersey. Her advisory work is grounded in the belief that strong artwork can open the door, but business knowledge helps artists stay in the field, protect their work, and build lasting creative careers.
